"Gary The Turkey"
Gary the turkey was daring, inquisitive, and adventurous. He lived near 52nd and Kalamazoo Street. For two years, he stalked the mailman, chased cars, and waited for the school bus, often wandering into busy streets and causing traffic jams. This became part of his character, taking his time and enjoying the day. I once filmed Gary off 52nd on his usual crosswalk strolls when suddenly he was chased by a puppy on a leash. “Run Gary, run,” I watched him dash past my van and down the street. His antics brought joy and laughter to kids and adults alike. After a few weeks, he was relocated but eventually returned, now on a busier side of town. Sadly, he was hit along the highway one day when he got too close. I believe this painting captures his personality, and I’m glad to have shared it with everyone.
